Four pieces of coursework, which offer the refreshing variety. Rosalind would like them to be submitted for assessment as a portfolio. 1. Write a critical review of a section of one of Christian Jacq's novels which feature Deir el-Medina (from the photocopies Rosalind gave us). Researched in pairs (or a trio). 1500 words +/- 10% to be handed in at the time of the Big feast on the 21 December.
2. In-class exercise. Complete a crossword on Deir el-Medina. During the class on the 23 November. Can be exchanged for an essay or a poster .
3. Practical work: Prepare a meal for the Deir el-Medina feast. Accompanied with 500 word brief. Will be consumed on the 21 December. Please see here for co-ordinating the feast menu. 4.Choose one or two of the following essay titles. As usual, 1500 words +/- 10%
- Describe the village barter system
- Discuss the function of the local law court.
- Using tangible examples from the tomb of Kha describe the clothing of the villagers.
- What do we know about marital relations at Deir el-Medina?
- What was the attitude to older people in the community?
- Was Paneb indeed a scoundrel?
- Evaluate the role of the scribe Amenakhte during the strikes.
- How useful are the displays in either the British museum or another collection of your choice in promoting Deir el-Medina to the public?
Attendance: 50% needed to qualify for assesment.
